My name is Antonieta Agusti
I was born in Venezuela into a family of artists and Spanish migrants. I grew up between cultures, music, and stories carried back and forth across borders. Over time, this experience became the starting point for my artistic research.
My relationship with the body and music began in childhood and developed through different dance disciplines, with a strong technical foundation in ballet and contemporary dance, as well as the study of classical music. My approach to Spanish dance, however, has been largely self-directed — shaped through continuous study and practice, historical repertoire, close observation of master teachers, and my own research into the forms that make up this rich stage heritage.

Coming to Spain meant physically encountering a part of my own history. In Madrid, I immersed myself in flamenco and Spanish dance, studying at institutions such as Amor de Dios and working with different teachers. Among them, Candela Soto has held a particularly important place in my journey — not only for what she taught me about flamenco, but for showing me how to understand dance as a form of knowledge, discipline, and transmission.
From there, I began to broaden my perspective towards escuela bolera, stylised dance, historical Spanish repertoire, and the many traditions that coexist within Spanish dance. Rather than simply reproducing a form, I am interested in understanding where it comes from, what memory it carries, and what it can tell us today.

My artistic training has also developed beyond dance. I hold a degree in Journalism and have explored anthropological theatre, philosophy, and different Eastern performance traditions. Persian poetry, Sufism, and Japanese Butoh dance have all become part of my research, expanding the way I understand the body, presence, and the creative process.
It is from this intersection of experiences that I develop my own stage language.
My work grows out of an exploration of cultural heritage, hybridity, and memory, creating performances and artistic works that bring tradition into dialogue with the contemporary. I am interested in creating works in which dance, music, image, and dramaturgy exist within a shared universe.
